The snow has finally melted and spring is well under way, and with it comes those pesky potholes that have been spending all winter waiting to mess up your car. Take a look at our helpful tips and tricks for avoiding potholes in Colorado Springs and keeping your vehicle in tip-top shape.
How to Avoid Pothole Season
- Stay Alert – Looking ahead and staying alert while scanning for potential potholes can minimize the chance of you running over one. If you simply cannot avoid them due to the road being littered with them, be sure to slow down. Hitting a pothole at a higher speed increases the likelihood of damage to your vehicle’s exterior or tires.
- Watch out for Water – After rain and snow, it’s best to avoid puddles because there could be deep potholes hidden in them. Roads can get worse-for-wear after the harsh winter, so multiple puddles on the road can signal that it may have suffered some damage.
- Keep Tires Properly Inflated – Checking to make sure your tires’ pressure is correct can make a significant difference in avoiding damage caused by potholes. If your tire is underinflated a pothole can cause a rupture while overinflated tires make them more susceptible to damage.
- Be Prepared – Make sure there are a car jack and a lug wrench in your vehicle and that the spare tire is inflated to its proper pressure in case you need to change a flat.
